Article 23
Sick Time
July 25, 2015
Assumptions:
- Holidays, season days and the employee’s regular days off (RDO) do not count toward a continuous absence.
- Each absence will begin with the use of short-term sick, vacation, and/or excused time without pay as outlined in paragraph 23-13.
- Employee must provide a doctor’s note dated either the first or second workday of the absence within two-days of his/her return to work for the use of extended sick to begin on the second workday of the absence.
Exceptions:
- If it is clear at the beginning of an absence that the absence will exceed 19 workdays, extended sick will be used starting on the second workday of the absence assuming that acceptable medical documentation is received by the University.
- If the absence is planned (surgery, delivery, etc.), the need for a doctor’s note dated the first or second workday is waived.
- A doctor’s note certifying that the employee was unable to work all the days of the absence is required for absences greater than 40 hours for the absence to be excused. An employee is subject to discipline for an unexcused absence.
Exception:
- If the employee provides a doctor’s note dated on the first or second workday of the absence, the days covered by the doctor’s note will be excused.
- Employee works M-F, eight hours per day, and begins an absence on July 13, 2015, and returns to work on July 15, 2015. The employee provides a doctor’s note dated July 14th upon his return on July 15th.
