General Membership Meeting Minutes
September 24, 2009


The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm with 24  members present.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.
The treasurer’s report was read and accepted.
All officers except John Farley were present.

Recognition of new members

There were no new members sworn in.

Reports of accidents sickness and death –

 It was reported that

  • Dave Gilbertson had a stroke.

Presidents Report –

The presidents Grievance summary is as follows –

 

  • Contractor working overtime. Granted but no remedy given.
  • Written warning insubordination heard 9/18.
  • Job transfer heard 9/18.

Arbitration summary –

  • 2 day DLO scheduled 10/22 rescheduled to Dec. 16th.
  • Working out of classification (Pay) scheduled Jan. 25th.
  • Pay issue (working out of classification) heard 6/11. Submitted
  • Transfer filed. (Article 22) heard 7/23 Denied. Scheduled 10/20. Settled
  • Payroll issues heard 5/01/09 submitted.
  • Written warning (safety) scheduled December 11.
  • Unit clarification being filed with MERC. IUOE HVAC. Pretrial conference scheduled for Oct.8th.

Other Business under the president’s report –
The president reported that-

  • Plant-op meeting scheduled for October Steward meeting.
  • Be careful where you are parked. People have been sending e-mails. Management out looking.
  • Open enrollment this October. Ken gave a description of how health insurance formula will work and he reported that Trades will not be affected until next contract.
  • The Tiger outing was a great time. Thanks to Laurie and Cal.

The Vice president report –
Smoke free initiative to begin by July 2011.  Ken and Richard attended a meeting on this.  The University will offer programs to help you Quit. Richard will report on progress as things develop.

Committee reports –

  • Scholarship committee – Nothing to report
  • Safety Committee – nothing to report
  • Apprenticeship committee – 2 apprentices topped out. (Sara Morden and Ben Zick)

Unfinished Business –

  • Two new laptops purchased for the President and Vice president. Approximate total  was $1550.00 . This was less than the amount approved in the motion.
  • The Overtime committee will meet on Monday. A vendor was selected to develop a program to maintain the overtime list and distribution. 

New Business –

  • Lots of thefts around campus. Be sure to lock your tools up and be aware or your surroundings.

Good of the union –
The jacket drawing was held and number 434 William Sodt wasn’t present so $20.00 more goes into the pocket.
John Bishop stopped by to say hello.

Adjournment –
The meeting was adjourned at 4:59  pm.
